"A network of librarians and library activists, created within the process of the European Social Forum. The time has come for the library and librarians to go on the offensive! Either "information society" means that the public is informed, or it is an empty phrase of technocrats. The European Social Forum (ESF) is by far the largest European space for organisations, movements, networks and individuals engaged in building a more sustainable, democratic and equitable society. This involves networking, knowledge building, and opinion making. Libraries have an important role in the forum process, as institutions designed to organize information resources, promote learning and offer a common space in society. However, we believe libraries and librarians could work more actively to secure free public access to all kinds of information resources, and for information being regarded as a commons."
